This is Crisantemi by G. Puccini, not one of his most famous works, but a truly beautiful one.
Finally I took the time to upload a little bit of the work done during the Young Conductors Development Programme with Milton Keynes City Orchestra led by Sian Edwards. It was a terrific weekend where we had the opportunity to work fantastic music with a great teacher and orchestra. And I made friends for life. M This is Crisantemi by G. Puccini, not one of his most famous works, but a truly beautiful one.

3rd of May, a day not to be forgotten!
It was an incredible experience to come back to the Foundling Museum playing with trombonist Carla Sabater Segurana (as part of the Young Spanish Performers Concert Series) and on the same day, conducting the world premiere of Ricardo Lorenz's fantastic piece Cacerola Soul. Moreover, it was amazing to see the entire Purcell Room standing and singing along Pots Pans, the Pans the Pots, the People! (Cacerola Soul's riff) encouraged from the stage by Omar Puente, the Latin Chamber Ensemble and myself. A truly remarkable concert organized by ILAMS and tour de force for everyone involved due to the wide ranging repertoire and the amount of players and singers involved. But when I saw the audience singing with us as they did, I knew we had done it right! Maite The beautiful St Peter’s Church in Eaton Square proved a perfect setting for the Society’s annual classical concert on April 12th, reports La Revista’s correspondent.
Spanish and English students from leading musical academies in London performed a wonderful variety of works by eminent Spanish composers like Granados, Falla, and Torroba, along with Debussy (a great influence on Spanish composers), and the Argentine Piazzola, whose trail-blazing new tangos emerged from a cross-current of influences on both sides of the Atlantic. Music ranged from traditional folk song and classical guitar to an eclectic composition performed by a string trio. The players were introduced by the charming and hugely talented Maite Aguirre who brought the evening to a rousing climax, conducting a moving arrangement for sextet of the Danza Ritual del Fuego composed by Falla. The brillant players and singers were Marta Lopez Fernandes (piano); Laura Ruhi (soprano); Angel Garcia Lopez (viola); Gunel Mirzayeva (piano); Cristina Ocaña Rosado (vioiin); Damian Rubido Gonzalez (double Bass); Maria Camahort (guitar); Guy Button (vilin); Alfonso Noriega (viola); Sophie Rivlin (violencello). In his welcome, vice-chairman Jimmy Burns paid tribute to the concert , describing it as emblemic of the Anglo-Spanish Society’s declared aim to promote a better understanding and sharing of British and Spanish culture. “This evening provides an excellent opportunity to highlight the excellence of talented young Spanish musicians in the heart of London-a true showcase,” he said. The evening also provided an opportunity to thank the outgoing Ambassador of Spain, Carles Casajuana I Pallet for his constant support for the Society during him time in London. Many thanks to Jose Ramon Rodino, Beatriz Gago, and Maite Aguirre for organizing the event , to Fidel Lopez Alvarez , Minister for Cultural and Scientific Affairs at the Embassy of Spain for support and promotion ,and for Javier Fernandez Hidalgo for providing tapas and wine. There are so many things going on at the moment, that I find it very hard to be specific and concentrate in one at the time! However I will try to do a brief!
Tenorissimi 'en route' was a big success last Saturday. We had a fantastic and very supportive audience in Bramley and we were delighted to be there. ( I will upload the pictures when I get them). The little adventure/anecdote was that the bflat4 of the keyboard 'broke' and sounded 'special' ... Quite unfortunate since one of my solo interludes, Onazes is written in B flat minor!! :) We all accepted with good humour and the concert finished with a full chuch singing Funiculi with all the required umpf! I had the pleasure to work first time with Achim Holub on the Sunday and it was a truly inspiring class for me. We worked on Schubert's Unfinished Symphony, which is some of the best 22 minutes of music written in the entire repertoire. I love the darkness, the shades ... it's Caravaggio! Or that is how I feel it. I will conduct and record it 10th July, so having the possibility to work it with him beforehand was really helpful! And finally yesterday I had my first official crossover moment playing for a newly created show Diva's in Development. Completely out of my comfort zone with musical numbers, but absolutely hilarious and inspiring to work with both Clare Presland and Jessica Pidsley. The performance was absolutely upbeat-paced, creative and fresh and I felt proud of what they had managed to write and what they achieved on stage! Next stop, Thursday in Clapham! Unfortunately Alba Bosch is ill, but Natalie Perez has kindly agreed to sing instead! Rehearsing first time tomorrow! And it looks like is bed time now! Buenas noches! |
